About this Event

Join the TU Chamber Choir and Bernie Sherlock for their annual Spring concert in the atmospheric surroundings of St Laurence’s Church on the Grangegorman campus at 7.30pm on Wednesday April 24th.

Overall winners of the 2024 Feis Ceoil adult choir competitions, the Conservatoire’s award-winning chamber choir offers a gorgeous selection of great music spanning centuries, borders and styles, from Renaissance masters like Palestrina and Morley to the leading composers of our times including Arvo Pärt. After beauty comes a little fun with clever versions of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and “The Bare Necessities of Life.” And as always we are lucky to be able to bring in some of the Conservatoire’s best up-and-coming, prize-winning performance students in special guest appearances!

The TU Dublin Chamber Choir is an award-winning ensemble at the heart of choral music-making in the TU Dublin Conservatoire. The choir has enjoyed success at many of Ireland’s major choral competitions, including both 2nd prize in the Fleischmann International Trophy Competition and Ireland’s Choir of the Year at the 2018 Cork International Choral Festival, as well as multiple prizes at Feis Ceoil in Dublin, including the Culwick Cup, and the O’Brien Award - the overall prize for an adult choir - in the 2024 Feis Ceoil.

Director Bernie Sherlock has an international profile as a conductor, jury-member, workshop leader, and teacher of conducting. She has won a number of international prizes for her conducting and interpretation. Her award-winning chamber choir New Dublin Voices is a consistent prize-winner at international competitions. She is Artistic Director of the Irish Youth Choirs, a guest conductor with Chamber Choir Ireland, and a Lecturer in Music at the TU Dublin Conservatoire. She holds a music degree from Trinity College Dublin and Masters and Doctorate degrees in conducting.

Mairéad Hurley studied piano under Rhona Marshall at the RIAM and music at UCD, graduating from there with a BMus. She continues her work in the Conservatoire as répétiteur in the vocal department and officiates at many music festivals and Masterclasses. Mairead was Head of Music at Opera Ireland from 1998 to 2010 and has a repertoire of over seventy operas.
