During the spring of 2026 Aning - Association for Philosophy and Psychoanalysis will present 5 lectures loosely knit together with the topic of "Truth and knowledge". We will discuss the clitoris, truth in art, the psychoanalytical ethic of honesty, masochism, truth that disrupts knowledge and much more.All lectures will be in english are free of charge and will take place at Anti Bookstore (Stora Nygatan 18, Malmö) between 18.00 and 20.00. To guarantee a seat you will have to be there some time before it starts.

Abstract for 26/4:
The distinction between “truth” and “knowledge” is a fundamental concern in philosophy and a topic of ongoing debate among scholars. We might also consider the contrast between correspondence and representation, in which truth is about correspondence to reality or, as I suggested, a presentation of reality, while knowledge is a representation of that reality in someone's mind. Philosophers such as Plato and Kant have contributed significantly to this discussion, and various theories, such as Correspondence and Constructivism, that seek to explain the nature of truth and knowledge. Although I am no philosopher, I will briefly touch on these notions before I set out on my psychoanalytic journey in this territory, where the distinction between truth and knowledge takes on a nuanced perspective where Truth in psychoanalysis often refers to the unconscious, repressed, or hidden aspects of a person's thoughts, feelings, or experiences, and where knowledge refers to the conscious understanding or insight gained through the therapeutic process. It's the explicit, verbalizable awareness of one's thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Knowledge in psychoanalysis often results from the analyst's interpretations and the patient's further reflections, which enable the patient to uncover and understand their Truth— their unconscious patterns and dynamics. In psychoanalytic therapy, the goal is not necessarily to uncover an objective truth, but to help the patient develop a deeper understanding of their subjective experience. Last but not least, I will provide some clinical examples to further illustrate my thoughts on the subject.

Judith Mitrani has a Ph.D. in Psychology and a post.doc. in Psychoanalysis. She was for nearly four decades a training and supervising analyst at the Psychoanalytic Center of California in Los Angeles and was honored with emeritus status after her retirement in 2015. Mitrani has written extensively about both clinical and theoretical issues in international peer-reviewed journals, anthologies and books. She has been translated into at least nine languages and received multiple awards for her teaching and writings. Mitrani was the founding Chair of the Frances Tustin Memorial Trust from 1995 until 2018.
