? Tomás Doncker - A Musical Trailblazer ?
Tomás Doncker is a music industry visionary and trailblazer in the New York music and arts scene. His journey began in the early 1980s as a member of groundbreaking bands like The Contortions and Defunkt. Over the years, he has forged international collaborations with music icons like Bootsy Collins, Yoko Ono, Madonna, Ivan Neville, and Bonnie Raitt. Tomás is not just a performer but also the founder and CEO of True Groove Records.
His creative endeavours, spanning over a decade, have encompassed diverse projects, including collaborations with Meshell Ndegeocello, Ravid Kahalani’s Yemen Blues, Finnish hip-hop sensation Paleface, and P-Funk alumni like Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton and Amp Fiddler. He has also worked with hip-hop pioneer Keith Shocklee (Public Enemy/Bomb Squad), iconic bassist/producer Bill Laswell, and the legendary Ms. Patti Smith.
In his latest groundbreaking venture, Tomás Doncker partnered with Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Yusef Komunyakaa and visual artist Floyd Tunson to create "Endangered." This immersive multi-media experience addresses the historical challenges faced by Black men in America. "Endangered" launched in 2022 with Juneteenth weekend performances and a companion album release. It's a contemporary revolution of the mind, blending music and art into what has been dubbed '21st Century Psychedelic Soul,' a socio-politically charged audio-visual soundtrack of dissent, discomfort, and reclamation.
Tomás Doncker's groundbreaking productions have received acclaim from numerous influential outlets, including CNN, HuffPost, Mojo, Spin, and Rolling Stone, solidifying his status as a musical innovator and cultural catalyst.
? Sam Huber - The Future Funk Master ?
From his secret sonic lab in downtown Helsinki, Finland, Sam Huber has built a career cross-pollinating musical touchstones from the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s with modern elements like hip-hop rhythms, trap beats, loops and more to create what he calls 'Future Funk.'
With over a dozen releases in the past five years, featuring collaborations with everyone from dancehall legend Hawkman to hip-hop icon Bazerk and P-Funk alums Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton and Amp Fiddler, remixes by the likes of Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame inductee Keith Shocklee (The Bomb Squad/Public Enemy) and Grammy-winning producer Bill Laswell, Huber is nothing if not prolific.
A powerhouse songwriter with eyes and ears always open, and guided by the steady hand of longtime producer Tomás Doncker, the one common thread that runs through his entire catalogue is a relentless, undeniably funky groove. “It’s all about the groove,” he relates. “That subconscious funk that hits you on a primal level and gets into your soul. I’ve always tried to have that, in some aspect, embedded in the DNA of every record I’ve ever made." Huber distils essences of everything from Berlin-era Bowie and vintage Philly soul to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Prince and even Tom Jones into his own genre-defying style, and the results are stellar every time.
? Guest DJ Keith Shocklee - The Legendary Wizard K-Jee ?
Keith Shocklee, aka Wizard K-Jee, is a famous music producer and DJ. Rolling Stone Magazine named Shocklee “one of the greatest producers in hip-hop” for the albums "It Takes A Nation Of MillionsTo Hold Us Back” and "Fear Of A Black Planet" with Public Enemy. As an original member of The Bomb Squad, Keith co-produced “Welcome to the Terrordome” and “Fight The Power” the latter earning a spot on Rolling Stone’s list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time.” Though notorious for his role in The Bomb Squad, Keith Shocklee’s musical scope is not limited to hip hop but encompasses disco, house, soul, classic, R&B, dance and more.
He has since produced recording artists that cross many genres including LL Cool J, Ice Cube, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul, and Sinead O'Connor amongst others. In April 2013, Keith was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Smithsonian alongside childhood friends, Chuck D and Flavor Flav. The music he helped make addressed social injustices and stirred controversy, while the fans called them "heroes" and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame deemed them "stars." Keith Shocklee's music has impacted society and made a significant contribution to the industry, his community, DJ culture as we know it and the world. Keith remains highly respected in DJ culture, booking gigs locally and internationally in various genres
