About this Event
What You’ll Be Doing:
The Tree Amigo Saturday Series is an 8-week hands-on training program with Our City Forest designed for volunteers who want to learn more about urban forestry and community stewardship.
Throughout the series, participants will rotate through activities including nursery operations, tree planting, pruning, propagation, and community outreach. Sessions take place at our Community Nursery, planting sites across San José, and local community events.
No prior experience is necessary — just a willingness to learn, work with others, and support a greener community!
Important: Please arrive on time each week to check in and participate in the lesson and safety demonstration before beginning hands-on activities.
Participants who attend 6 of the 8 sessions will receive a Tree Amigo certificate at our Arbor Day community planting celebration.
Note: Activities and locations may occasionally change due to weather or project needs. Participants will receive updates by email if adjustments are required.
Important: Please arrive on time to participate in the introduction and lesson.
Age Recommendation:
This is a moderate intensity event for all ages. No experience necessary, just a willingness to work with others while enjoying the outside! Volunteers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to volunteer. For elementary aged volunteers we ask that there is 1 adult for every 2 children if possible.
What to Bring to Volunteer:
- Closed-toed shoes (No crocs, sandals, flats, etc.)
- Proper work clothing that can get dirty (long pants are recommended, but make sure your attire is weather appropriate)
- Appropriate sun or rain protection (Sunscreen, Hat, Rain jacket, etc.)
- Water! Please bring plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated throughout your volunteer shift!
- Recommended: Gardening-type gloves
If you arrive at your shift without the above items, you may be turned away from volunteering due to safety reasons.
Service work forms can be submitted electronically to [email protected], or brought with you to your volunteer shift.
Parking Details:
Street parking is available on McKendrie St and Ruff Dr. Please avoid parking along Spring St, which is known to be checked, and vehicles parked there will be ticketed.
