An in-depth workshop offering secondary, PRU, AP teachers insight into how to work in a trauma-informed way when working with young people.
About this Event

Working in Secondary, PRU, or Alternative Provision means supporting students who often carry complex emotional and psychological burdens. Understanding the impact of trauma is no longer optional—it is a foundational skill for creating a safe and effective learning environment.

This crucial professional development workshop, led by expert Sarah Harrison-Greaves, is designed specifically for you. It will equip you with practical, trauma-informed strategies to manage classroom dynamics, support student wellbeing, and protect your own professional health.

What You Will Explore:
  • Identification: Learn how trauma may present itself in the classroom setting and impact a young person's engagement and behaviour.
  • Response: Explore appropriate, safe, and proactive ways of responding to trauma, helping you de-escalate situations and support students effectively.
  • Theory & Practice: Dive into foundational concepts like attachment theory and the importance of professional boundaries within the school context.
  • Creative Tools: Gain practical ideas for integrating regulating art activities using visual arts and mixed media that can be used as quick, calming interventions in the classroom.
  • Sustaining Yourself: A dedicated focus on essential self-care strategies for educators working in high-needs environments.

Taking part in this training will support you to gain knowledge and confidence to meet the complex needs of your students while strengthening your own professional resilience.
