About this Event
Train Running Days are special public events held twice a year at the Museum, offering visitors the chance to see our locomotives running in full operation on the central 1930s Gauge 0 layout.
Each Train Running Day is themed, and the upcoming event, North of the Border to South of the Alps, celebrates international rail travel. The day will feature famous LMS and LNER trains, the Southern Railway, and a scenic journey across France and into Italy.
The Museum’s Gauge 0 model railway layout is the centrepiece of the collection. Its three-rail track is home to around 50 Gauge 0 locomotives and trains, most of which are operated during Train Running Days.
While the central buildings on the layout are inspired by Brighton architecture, the surrounding trackside buildings and accessories are authentic period pieces. Created by Museum founder Chris Littledale, the layout is designed to provide an immersive impression of British city and town life during the 1930s.
