- 14 - 17 yr olds need a parent/guardian to come to the meet up, sign the sign on sheet and collect at the end of the session. Parents/guardians very welcome to sign up and help dig too.
Sign up: we've got 16 spaces available for this session. Remember to get a ticket for each person in your party who'll be coming along.
What to bring: suitable clothes for trailwork outside in spring (including warm layers and waterproofs), sturdy boots, own trail snacks/drinks
We provide: tools, gloves, hi vis, safety glasses, session supervision/guidance/ training.
Meet up: 0900 at the Gateway building at Glentress, under the canopy next to the toilets/changing/showers.
Directions for parking/meet up: turn into Glentress off A72. Once past the barrier head straight on and after ~150m and bear right over the concrete bridge (now single lane for vehicles), following the blue badge holders parking signs, head briefly up the hill then right again just before the Gateway building into the car park.
Getting to the worksite: from the meet up we'll drive steadily up into the forest (on good quality forest roads) and park near the entry to Mushroom Pie. Carsharing where possible.
Trail closure required? Yes, to help keep everyone safe we'll close Mushroom Pie between ~0915 and ~1245 with a short diversion from the exit of the Pie Run to the start of Magic Mushroom.
Tasks on the trails:
- load aggregate from pile at the exit of Mushroom Pie into wheelbarrows and wheelbarrow in to stream crossing point.
- Tip aggregate at sides of pipe and shape into layers to be compacted every ~150mm depth with wackerplate.
- Cover over pipe with minimum 250mm depth aggregate with final riding surface (150mm top layer of finer aggregate) ready to be compacted to refusal with wackerplate
- Dress sloping trail edges with clay rich soils and lightly compact
And if time/numbers allow:
- Resurface worn low spots in trail with finer aggregate - prep tray in trail, infill and shape ready for wackerplating
- Clean out drainage channels and pipes along trail
Cake break: 1100 ish!
Finishing up: we'll finish up on the trail at ~1245, back down to the Gateway building for 1300.
Parking and the exit barrier: we'll give you a code at the meet up giving you free parking for the full day (the least we can do!). Just before leaving Glentress find the nearest paystation and input your vehicle registration and the code. The barrier will then lift automatically on exiting.
Cancellation: if we have to cancel the session (weather conditions, staff illness etc.) we'll confirm this by 5pm on Friday 22 May on this page and via email to sign ups).
