About this Event

TOUCH GRASS: A Free Sapphic Pride Picnic 🌿

Pride month can get expensive, overwhelming, crowded, and loud.

So we wanted to offer something different.

Come gather with Mixtape Sapphics for a relaxed community picnic at Rock Creek Park — a low-pressure morning to slow down, touch grass, meet new people, reconnect with friends, and spend some intentional time together outdoors.

This is a free community gathering for queer women & sapphics 35+ (and all with grown energy welcome).

We know there are festivals, parties, and endless Pride events competing for your attention this month. This isn’t that.

This is:
🌿 a chill potluck-style hang
🌿 BYOB (bring your own bites/beverages) for yourself or to share
🌿 shady trees + fresh air
🌿 conversation and community
🌿 soft Pride energy
🌿 a place to come solo or with friends
🌿 an excuse to unplug and be around good people

We’ve reserved Grove 13 in Rock Creek Park and will bring disposable plates, cups, cutlery, napkins, and trash bags.

Depending on contributions to the shared snack fund and what’s available closer to the event, Samantha will also bring some things to share. A few days before the picnic, we’ll post on Instagram and send an email update with what will be available from us and what additional items might still be helpful for folks to bring.

Please RSVP if you plan to attend so we have a rough sense of numbers.

If you’d like to support the shared snacks/supplies fund — and Samantha’s time and labor organizing free community events like this — contributions are welcome via Venmo:

Please label contributions:
“shared snack fund”

Contributions are appreciated but absolutely not required.

WHAT TO BRING:
☀️ Water or drinks
☀️ Snacks or picnic food
☀️ Sunscreen
☀️ Bug spray
☀️ A blanket or camp chair if you have one
☀️ Games, cards, or picnic activities if you’d like
☀️ Whatever helps you stay comfortable outdoors in June weather

GETTING THERE:
📍 Grove 13 — Rock Creek Park

Please note that Beach Drive is closed to cars on Sundays, so everyone will need to walk a short distance into the grove area.

For drivers/rideshare:
The easiest access point is usually parking near the Rock Creek Park Horse Center / picnic grove area and walking into Grove 13 from there.

For Metro/bus users:
A bus + short walk or rideshare combo will likely be the easiest option depending on where you’re coming from.

We’ll send a more detailed arrival note and pin closer to the event date for those on our email list and who have RSVPed. Also there will be posts on Instagram.

We strongly recommend:
✔️ wearing comfortable shoes
✔️ arriving a little early if you’re unfamiliar with the park
✔️ checking the weather beforehand

DETAILS:
🗓 Sunday, June 21
⏰ 9:30 AM–1:00 PM
⚠️ We must be fully cleaned up and out of the space by 1:30 PM for the next reservation.

If you’d be willing to help with setup or cleanup, we’d deeply appreciate it:
🌿 Setup helpers: arrive around 9:00 AM
🌿 Cleanup helpers: stay until around 1:30 PM

Come stay for 20 minutes or a few hours.
Bring a friend, bring a snack, or just bring yourself.

Let’s touch grass together.
