About this Event
Tools for Sustainable Peacemaking:
An Invitation to Learn & Exchange
We invite you to join The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a peacemaking series exploring the essential pillars of community-level peacebuilding. Drawing on field experience and evidence-based practice, this series brings together diplomats, NGO practitioners, government leaders, and academics to examine how we can work more effectively, exploring how humanitarian action, education, interfaith cooperation, and human rights education can create a foundation for lasting peace.
THIS SESSION: Education as a Foundation for Peace
This session explores how education plays a role in building societies capable of lasting peace. Education is sometimes viewed primarily as preparation for employment or economic opportunity. Yet education can do much more. It expands horizons, introduces people to ideas beyond their own experience, and opens doors to different cultures, histories, beliefs, and perspectives.
Exposure to new ideas can foster curiosity, intellectual humility, and a deeper appreciation for experiences different from our own. As perspectives broaden, people may become more capable of understanding others, engaging respectfully across differences, and contributing to communities marked by greater understanding and cooperation.
We invite diplomats, educators, scholars, and thought leaders to explore how learning environments help shape the human experience and how education may contribute to communities and societies where peace becomes more possible. Education can develop good and moral citizens capable of critical thinking, empathy to understand different perspectives.
