TOOLs – Screening: DAHOMEY
Join us for a screening of Dahomey (2024), directed by Mati Diop, as part of the closing programme for , a multidisciplinary group exhibition featuring Ella Wanendeya, Fi Sonola, and Kialy Tihngang, curated by Shane Sutherland.
The film follows the return of royal artefacts from France to the Republic of Benin, giving voice to objects as they reflect on histories of displacement, extraction and return. Moving between documentary and speculative narration, Dahomey repositions objects as active carriers of memory and presence.
In dialogue with , the screening extends the exhibition’s exploration of objects beyond utility — considering how they operate within systems of power, relation and meaning, and what it means for an object to speak.
