for professional dance artists, choreographers, and dance educators

Introducing Toolboks - a creative resource and tactile system of 110 cards offering explorations, frames, prompts and reflection questions for both independent practice and collective processes.
Toolboks is designed to inspire and support the creation of rich and complex movement ideas, gently challenge habits and patterns, and open up new possibilities in movement, composition and creative work.
This workshop introduces Toolboks as a shared knowledge system and a framework for freedom: clear structures that offer entry points and developmental pathways without prescribing outcomes. Across two days we’ll work practically with selected Tool cards (Individual / Partner / Group), layer and refine explorations with Add On cards, and use Consider cards to open dialogue and deepen reflection around practice and process.

During this workshop, participants will:
• Get a clear introduction to Toolboks as a creative tool and resource for improvisation, composition, choreographic development, and facilitation.
• Work practically with the cards through individual, partner, and group explorations.
• Learn how to navigate the card categories and symbols to choose tools intentionally depending on the need and context.
• Practice adaptable structures and frameworks that can be transferred to studio practice, rehearsal processes, choreographic development, teaching and facilitation contexts.
• Explore compositional tools for generating, developing, and refining material.
• Consider reflective frameworks that open up dialogue, reflection and inquiry into elements surrounding practice and process – how we work.

Practical notes:
• The workshop is held in English. Terms and tasks can be translated into Norwegian in the room if needed.
• A warm-up is included. Participants are welcome to arrive early with their own warm-up needs and pacing.
• Some partner/group tools involve touch, alternatives are always available. Participants are welcome to adapt tasks and opt in/out of touch-based explorations.
• Participants are invited to work within their capacity and to modify tasks, pause or take breaks when needed.
• Any documentation (photo/video) will only happen with clear consent, participants can opt out at any time.

Anna-Lise Marie Hearn

Anna-Lise Marie Hearn (she/her) is a British-Norwegian dance artist, choreographer, educator, facilitator, and artist coach based in Oslo. Her work lives in the spaces between facilitation, creation, and artistic research. She centres movement and the body— not only through form, but through the processes that shape it.

Anna-Lise has worked extensively within the dance field in the UK, Germany, and Norway, designing and delivering workshops, professional training programmes, and practice-led processes for artists and students. Her work focuses on creating experiences and spaces that are enriching, exploratory, expansive, and responsive — where participants can research, test, reflect, and develop their work with support and clarity.

Toolboks is an extension of this practice. It emerged from a desire to support artists in finding new pathways and possibilities within their creative processes — independently and within collective environments. Toolboks is a physical, tactile, card-based resource designed to invite inquiry and play, shift perspectives, challenge habitual patterns, and offer new possibilities of entering, exploring, and thinking about movement – and the processes we engage with when creating. Each card is a prompt for practice – an invitation.

Holding clarity and spaciousness in balance, Toolboks offers pathways into movement by giving just enough structure for guidance and support, while leaving space for possibilities to unfold.
