About this Event
Illustration Programme at Camberwell College of Arts present The Office for Speculative Landscapes, a dynamic illustration festival at Camberwell Space, blending workshops, performances, talks, and discussions. Reimagined as a hybrid critical-illustration studio and arts-education think-tank, the space will foster experimentation, community, and creative play.
Using the online resource ‘Bibliodyssey’ for inspiration students will craft an imaginary creature using modelling clay. These 3D models will then be digitally scanned using Scaniverse. On completion of the workshop scanned models will be uploaded into an immersive online environment for participants to locate independently.
This workshop will last for 4hrs and is open to all (booking required).
Materials will be provided, however participants should be able to use a personal phone or tablet to access the website (https://bibliodyssey.blogspot.com/). Technical demonstrations of Scaniverse (App) and FrameVR (3D web platform) will be given and opportunities to test Scaniverse and explore the immersive environment in a Meta Quest 3 headset will be available.
Biographies
Matthew Hawkins is a Senior Lecturer on the Illustration Programme. He studied MA Communication Art & Design at the Royal College of Art and has over 25 years working in education. He has been lecturing at Camberwell since 2007.
Matthew’s interests are drawn to the potential of 3D digital practices and emerging technologies. He is eager to explore technologies in the context of the discipline and challenge the often uneasy relationship between analogue and digital processes.
Matthew asks what role the educator can play in promoting dialogue between the two, challenging perceptions and advocating foresight amongst student cohorts. Investigations have enabled the development of exploratory workshops and activities designed to improve accessibility, understanding and participation amongst staff and students.
