About this Event
Please join the Military and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee as we welcome Vice Admiral Doug G. Perry, Commander, Joint Force Command Norfolk; Commander, U.S. 2nd Fleet; and Director Combined Joint Operations from the Sea Centre of Excellence, who will share from his 35-years of experience as a nuclear-powered submarine officer—and more recently as a dual-hatted commander. Perry will discuss the posture, strength, and readiness of the U.S. Navy to meet the rapidly changing security challenges of our times. As the dual-hatted commander of Joint Force Command Norfolk and U.S. 2nd Fleet, he will also address his fairly new NATO command that is responsible for planning and coordinating joint military operations “from Florida to Finnmark.”
Perry’s visit to Chicago is part of the U.S. Navy’s outreach and engagement with non-fleet concentration areas of the country—known as Navy Weeks. Chicago’s Navy Week is being conducted August 5 – 11, 2024. Chicago will see Sailors coming in from across the fleet—especially from the USS ILLINOIS, USS RICKOVER, and Naval Station Great Lakes — to participate in events and activities to educate, inform, and inspire the public about their Navy. The culminating event of Chicago’s Navy Week will be the week-end performance of the Blue Angels during the Chicago Air & Water Show.
