About this Event
On the occasion of the Portuguese National Day, we invite you to Toast to America: Portuguese Musical Heritage in Times of Freedom.
The Concert and Official Reception, with the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of Portugal to the US, will celebrate cultural ties between Portugal and the United States in the 250th Anniversary of American Independence.
In 1776, the Founding Fathers toasted to American Independence with Madeira wine. 250 years later, the Concert and Official Reception will link the celebrations with Portuguese musical heritage: Portuguese composers active in 1776; musical ties to Madeira; and the values of freedom associated with the founding of the United States of America.
Concert with Inês Thomas Almeida (musicologist, FCSH/UNL – commentary & mezzo-soprano), Ana Rita Coelho (winner of the Cascais Opera – International Vocal Competition 2025 – mezzo-soprano), and João Vaz (Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa – organ), followed by an Official Reception.
Event organized in partnership with Cascais Opera – International Vocal Competition based in Cascais, Portugal, and with the support of Camões, Institute for Cooperation and Language and TAP Air Portugal.
