About this Event
A musical performance of queer pop rock drag mixed with classical baroque music, held at the legendary SO36 on Oranienstrasse in Kreuzberg.
Unique collaboration between Tipsy Bear Berlin, the Queer Heart of Prenzlauer Berg, a local LGBTQIA+ bar and venue that showcases multidisciplinary queer artists and drag performers from diverse backgrounds - and BaroquePrince, a music collective performing internationally, with six members who are closely associated with the Komische Oper Berlin and apply their classically trained expertise to create fresh interpretations of classics and pop/rock anthems with a baroque flair!
This collaboration continues the innovative concert series of BaroquePrince (last seen at Schwuz Queer Club), opening up the worlds of classical music, working with Tipsy Bear to combine it with modern queer culture. Expect a night of striking musicians, soulful singers, fierce choreography, glamorous drag and even a little Christmas joy - a unique musical experience not to be missed!
FEATURING:
BAROQUE PRINCE is a musical collective made up of Maria Fiselier (vocals), Deniz Tahberer (violin), Frank Schulte (keyboards), Ralf Templin (guitars), Hendrik Havekost (drums) and Arnulf Ballhorn (bass) who are all primarily in Opera but move comfortably exploring different musical genres and styles. Their musical expertise allow them to stay close to the original vision of the composer whilst simultaneously updating or creating new interpretations of classics. Who doesn’t want to hear an aria by George Frideric Handel with electric guitar, synthetic sounds and driving drum grooves? Their current program includes overtures and dances by Jean Jacques Rameau, arias by GF Händel and Antonio Vivaldi, music by Pink Floyd, Prince, Björk, Queen and others.
TIPSY BEAR resident performers include: singer songwriter & drag performer Sedric Perry; dancer, choreographer and drag performer Daniela Candela; and The C.O.WS queer dance collective, known in Berlin for their back up dancer takeovers!
SEDRIC PERRY is a Berlin-based performer and classically trained artist from Philadelphia who traces their soulful sound back to gospel routes, incorporating them into a smooth blend of jazz, R&B and house - dubbed ‘Brilliant’ by RuPaul.
DANIELA CANDELA is a dance drag superstar who is part of the Komische Oper ensemble (most well known for their role as Jacob in La Cage aux Folles) and who recently choreographed ‘Carmen’ for Theatre Magdeburg Opernhaus. They will be performing and collaborating on performance choreography with The C.O.W.s.
THE C.O.W.S are a queer dance collective with big slut energy & nasty they/them synergy. The C.O.W. collective is a multidisciplinary, farm-to-stage, interactive dance/cabaret group of calves-turned-full-blown heffers, putting the ATE back in CRE-ATE-IVITY where ridiculous storytelling, self-empowerment, empathy & activism are served to you on a silver platter by the IT-C.O.W.s: Sabina, Sergio & Thesis.
