A hands-on poetry workshop for teens led by Hued Songs, celebrating voice, identity, and the power of spoken word.
About this Event

Join Hued Songs at the African American Research Library & Cultural Center for "Till It's Done: A Teen Poetry Workshop" — part of the 2026 Africana Arts & Humanities Festival (AAHF).

In this hands-on workshop, teens will explore sound and song as carriers of code, caution, and liberatory instruction. Guided by poet Arsimmer McCoy, participants will work through the codes found within call and response, simple blues chords that act as maps, and calls for rebellion and evolution — culminating in a collective song creation that transforms personal experiences into powerful expression.

About Hued Songs:

Hued Songs produces experiences that amplify Black joy, Black creativity, and Black belonging — through song, spoken word, dance, and heart. Founded in 2017 under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Kunya Rowley, Hued Songs is committed to providing a platform where Black and Brown artists can be seen, heard, and paid, while removing cost, geography, and perception barriers to the arts.

About Arsimmer McCoy:

Arsimmer McCoy is a Miami Gardens-based poet, interdisciplinary artist, educator, and cultural worker whose work explores the intersections of identity, memory, and the Black South. A graduate of Florida Memorial University (HBCU), McCoy is the 2024 Marjory Stoneman Douglas Poetry Award recipient and has performed internationally across the U.S., England, Thailand, Ghana, the Dominican Republic, and Italy.

Workshop materials and refreshments will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to bring personal archival materials and musical instruments to inspire their own creative process.

This event is FREE and open to teens. Space is limited — register today!
