Tilberthwaite to Holme Fell [Coniston] - National Park Guided Walk

The walk begins with a chance to discover a surprising piece of public art by Andy Goldsworthy before moving on to see the impressive Hodge Close quarry. The route than takes in Man Crag and Ivy Crag with excellent views of the area (weather permitting) and finally Holme Fell itself, at 317m it is one of the Wainwright fells.

This is a fairly short walk with some steep ascents and descents on rocky and grassy ground which can be muddy and slippery in poor weather. There is also a short scramble needing the use of hands to the final summit.

Grade 5 walks are our most challenging full day walks which involve going onto the fell summits. These walks require a good level of fitness and full walking kit appropriate for the weather conditions. Some people may find walking poles useful. You may encounter sustained climbs up some steeper sections. The surfaces can be rough and uneven, with rocky or muddy sections, irregular steps, stiles or narrow gates and gaps.

Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather and bring a packed lunch.

Public transport: There is no public transport link to Tilberthwaite. The nearest bus stop is in Coniston, 4km from the start of the walk.
