About this Event
Join us for the first in a new poetry reading series at Waterstones York!
Our June 2026 issue will feature Alex Wylie and include an open-mic for local voices to share their words with the community.
Alex Wylie is a poet and literary critic. He has published several articles on modern and contemporary poetry in prominent literary magazines such as PN Review. His debut collection, Secular Games, was published in 2018 and his monograph Geoffrey Hill’s Later Work: Radiance of Apprehension in 2019. Most recently, Wylie has published his second collection, Krishna’s Anarchy, which has been praised by Michael Schmidt as “rich in poetic invention, in politics, in sensual witness. It is challenging, engaging and inexhaustible.” He is also a senior lecturer at York St John University.
About the open-mic:
Anyone is welcome to sign-up to read for the open-mic, but please do so in advance. Email [email protected] and one of our events booksellers will reach out to confirm your slot. Each slot is 5 minutes. Please be aware that if the maximum capacity of readers is reached, you will be given priority to read at the next Tidings event.
If you are reading at the open-mic you do not require a ticket to enter.
We look forward to welcoming you!
