About this Event
Join Tibet Film Festival and Chisem Foundation at Photobook Cafe on Saturday, November 23rd at 1pm, for the screening of Chisem Foundation’s debut short film, ‘Normal People’ and a zine-making workshop!
The word “Chisem” is a Tibetan word that translates to “Selflessness”. Chisem Foundation, established in 2022, is a Tibetan youth-led community advocating for the importance of nurturing our mental health through “creative and impactful endeavours”. In their film, ‘Normal People’, the foundation produced a creative outlet for themselves, whilst exploring important topics on queerness, the self and identity, as well as the core values of the foundation, friendship and community.
Created by members of Chisem Foundation and students at Delhi University, ‘Normal People’ (34 mins) is a sweet and tender story that portrays the tentative beginnings of boyhood and questioning one’s identity. ‘Normal People’ probes clichés and questions our binary understandings of queerness.
After the screening of ‘Normal People’, there will be a zine-making workshop, led by Tashi, that centres on the core values of Chisem Foundation. Tashi is a Tibetan-British writer and creative who made her first zine during an MA at Central Saint Martins which explored her dual heritage. There will be a chance to create a pocket-sized zine that is either a mental wellbeing manual for oneself or a zine that highlights the issues inside Tibet and could be a succinct source of information for a stranger.
*This event is open to all and the ticket price includes all zine making materials. Please only come if you agree to being open, respectful and kind. This is a hate free space and the organisers reserve the right to refuse admission or remove those who are disrespectful or disruptive. Join us to discuss, learn and create together in an informal, fun and welcoming space!
