Director: Sharan Venugopal

Sharan Venugopal is a filmmaker from Kerala, India. He is an alumnus of Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata. His diploma film 'Oru Paathiraa Swapnam Pole' (Like A Midnight Dream) won the best film on Family values at the 67th National Film awards of India. The film was also screened at the 51st International Film Festival of India, Goa under the Indian Panorama section. Sharan was also a part of an exchange program at Zelig school of documentary and New media, Bolzano, Italy and directed a documentary titled 'Dual' from there. His films have been also a part of festivals like Mumbai International Film Festival, Kolkata International Film Festival, Indian Film festival Stuttgart etc. ‘Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal’ (Three Sons of Narayani) is his debut feature film.

Memories are something which I hold on to, as my priciest possession. The film Three sons of Narayani is inspired from a few experiences I have had as child when I used to visit my mother’s ancestral home. Most of the characters in this film are shades of people whom I have met from that village. We often romanticize life in villages and living in traditional joint family structures, valuing it more than current nuclear family setups but often the story is a lot more complicated than what meets the eye. The film is a reminder of the dark cobwebs that lie behind the facade of such traditional family structures.
