Join us at the North Carolina Estuarium for a special presentation hosted in partnership with the NC Estuarium.David M. Bennett, Curator of Maritime History at the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, will present "This Land a Delight".
During the summer months of the antebellum period, Beaufort County residents retreated to the coast to escape the outbreak of diseases, such as malaria. A popular destination was Portsmouth Island. This talk will primarily explore the summertime experiences of Beaufort County residents on Portsmouth Island preserved in the personal papers of various Beaufort County families.
Admission is free, but donations are suggested.
