OPEN CALL: THEN & THERE __An Artistic Research GroupOpen Call to join THEN, THERE & THEM, an artistic research group starting at the end of January 2026, with gatherings twice a month at the Rainbow Center and the City Lab of the Lëtzebuerg City Museum, where the group will have an exhibition in July 2026.
THEN, THERE & THEM is a multidisciplinary artistic project dedicated to building a small, intentional community where we can connect, research, and artistically explore together. We will follow the trail of different queer thinkers and artists to imagine and embody other ways of being in our world, understanding queerness not only as identity but as action, a continuous practice of world-making.
In our bimonthly sessions, we will engage creatively with queer and feminist theoretical texts and explore the work of queer artists to foster our own speculations and dialogues. Through these proposed materials, we will delve into foundational questions, such as the colonial construct of gender, gender as performance, and the queering of spaces, among others.
In our gatherings, we will also explore performance-based artistic practices through fun and non-judgmental sensory-driven exercises, where we will explore our body movement and presence. Because to think differently, we must move differently. The sessions will therefore strive to center the embodied experience of our queer bodies.
The direction and content of the project will be shaped by the personal interests and needs of its participants. It will be initiated under the facilitation of visual artist and performer Leire de Meer, whose practice explores fiction's ability to alter materiality. The idea, however, is for the group to evolve organically into a horizontal creative dynamic, where everyone can bring their own unique inquiries, methods, and voices.
This project emerges urgently to resist the fragmentation, isolation, and systemic violence targeting the trans community with the rise of transphobic policies worldwide. We emphasize encounter and gathering as vital artistic practices in themselves, creating spaces where we can radically reimagine ways of being together.
The group will develop embodied methodologies for artistic research and generate original collective work across performance, text, moving image, and community encounters. The work developed by THEN, THERE & THEM will be presented to the public at the Luxembourg City Museum's City Lab exhibition space as well as in the Rainbow Center during July 2026.
If you are yearning to explore, create, and imagine in community (to practice queerness as a verb!!) - send an email to: [email protected] with the subject “THEN, THERE & THEM” telling us who you are and why you would like to be a part of this project.
