About this Event
Theatre Performance: Umbilical - Born Black! Borne Silent!
✨ About the Play
This powerful live theatre performance shines a spotlight on a critical and heartbreaking reality... the disproportionately high rates at which Black women experience complications, death, and loss during and after childbirth. This isn’t just a headline; it’s a lived experience that affects entire families and communities.
Through the eyes of Papa Elijah, Duane, and Zion, three generations of Black men, this moving production explores the emotional and mental impact of losing their partners during such vulnerable times. Their stories weave together love, loss, strength, and a shared determination to turn pain into action for change.
🆘 This isn’t just a performance. It’s a call to awareness, community, and transformation.
👥 Why This Matters
Black maternal health disparities are not just statistics — they’re real lives, real families. This production seeks to:
- Raise awareness of systemic issues impacting Black maternal health.
- Give voice to the men, fathers, and sons often left out of these narratives.
- Spark conversation and inspire collective action to create lasting change.

“We believe theatre can do more than entertain... it can awaken, heal, and move us to act. This is a story about love, loss, and legacy... and how we, as a community, can change the narrative.”
