Theatre In the Raw has two nights of remarkable, thought provoking, “Unusual,” “Awakening” and engaging theatre readings that harkens back to the early days of the company and its dozens upon dozens of evenings of "Unusual-Awakening-Exchanging" one-acts from the ole’ days on the Drive and beyond.
These two plays are winners of Theatre In the Raw’s 12th and 13th biennial play writing contest and the company is very glad to see this important, bold, confrontational and noteworthy one-acts presented side by side over two nights with a few surprises left in store from the company.
These evenings are a tribute to Theatre In the Raw’s late founder and artistic director Jay Hamburger and the hundreds of one-act plays produced by Theatre In the Raw over the past 30 years. The plays will be directed by the sensitive, earnest and poignant Teresa Vandertuin and Jacques Lalonde and get to the heart of the gritty and brave course set by the dozens of nights of one-acts the company has produced over its 30 years of production work.
The first night will be presented as part of the 22nd Heart of the City Festival on November 1st as a free of charge, drop in event. The second night will be held on November 15th at the Dusty Flowerpot Studio, with limited seating and advanced tickets available.

Theatre in the Raw presents staged readings of two award-winning plays from their 12th and 13th Biennial One-Act Playwriting Contests.
Wednesday’s Children, by Ron Davies, with Angie Nolan* and Cecilia Splendiferous, directed by Teresa Vandertuin*. In this well-crafted and powerful play two sisters meet for the first time in twenty years; despite one sister’s hopes to reconcile, will her sister’s painful memories of childhood sexual abuse keep them apart?
Note: trigger warning as the play discusses the aftermath of childhood sexual abuse / remembered traumatic events.
An Evening with Oscar and Noël, by Thomas Mason and Craig Mason, with Allan Morgan* and Mackenzie Gray*, directed by Jacques Lalonde. What would happen if two of the greatest, most influential and hilarious playwrights met in the afterlife? Come to the reading and you’ll find out!
