Join knitwear designer and author Justine Lee for a special evening celebrating Britain’s rare sheep breeds, sustainable wool and more!
About this Event

Justine is known for her thoughtful, sustainable practice, working with locally sourced fleeces from ancient and heritage sheep breeds. Her work has been the subject of short films exploring her process, and she speaks regularly at fibre festivals about the importance of preserving rare and heritage breeds. This event offers a rare opportunity to hear directly from her about the story behind her book, The Wonder of Wool, and the growing movement to reconnect makers with meaningful materials.

The evening will begin with a short film introducing the story of London’s City Farms, their sheep, and the origins of London Wool, a project that transforms fleeces which would otherwise go to waste into beautiful, traceable yarn. The majority of profits from London Wool are reinvested back into the participating community farms.

This will be followed by a talk from Justine on Britain’s rare and heritage sheep breeds, their distinctive wool qualities, and why their preservation matters. She will also speak about The Wonder of Wool and the development of London Wool.

In the second half of the evening attendees will have the opportunity to experiment with London Wool and a selection of rare breed yarns, to begin knitting something to take home and receive guidance. Beginners are very welcome!

The interactive session will be delivered in conjunction with The Roaming Sheep.

Copies of The Wonder of Wool will be available to purchase on the night. Yarn will be provided for use during the session, and participants will be able to take home what they make.

Tickets are £25 and numbers are limited. Your ticket includes entry to the talk and screening, participation in the interactive knitting session, and materials for use during the workshop.
