The Winter Paralympic Games: 50 years in the making

This special documentary screening traces the 50-year history of the Winter Paralympic Games. Hosted by Dr Chris Brown, Chris explores the important milestones in the development of the Winter Paralympics. Chris interviews Winter Paralympians, administrators, and a historian to get under the skin of the rich history of the Winter Paralympics. The documentary focuses on three landmark editions of the Winter Paralympics to tell its 50-year story:

• 1976 Winter Olympic Games for the Disabled in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden

• 1998 Winter Paralympic Games in Nagano, Japan

• 2010 Winter Paralympic Games in Vancouver, Canada

Featuring in the documentary are three Winter Paralympians, each with a unique and fascinating story to tell about the Winter Paralympics, including Great Britain's first Winter Paralympic gold medallist, Kelly Gallagher MBE.

The documentary has been made in partnership with the National Paralympic Heritage Trust. This project is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), through an award from the University of Hertfordshire’s ESRC Impact Acceleration Account.
