With the themes and category descriptions, every participant and spectator is advised to stay in their own cultures for this evening.

BALLROOM HISTORY 101
Our ballroom scene originated in the late 1960s in Harlem, New York City (US) when Black and Latina fem queens separated themselves from white drag queens that were dominating the beauty pageants. With their own balls, they created spaces of safety from the white hetero-cis-sexist society that was/is extremely violent and unforgiving to femmes of colour in public spaces.
Through different categories like Realness and Face, they would mirror and mock the normative and cis-passing people on fashion magazines or in executive jobs and compete against each other to gain recognition and win grand prizes.
Knowing that our context in 2024 in Europe is different from the one that started the scene, we are protective of our space and our community.
This to say: we do not tolerate (anti-Black) racist, queerphobic, trans-mysoginistic, body-shaming, ageist, ableist, classist, xenophobic comments or behaviour in any form at our balls / in our spaces.
If you want to walk the ball, make sure to prepare your look and your performance with respect to the Icons who created the scene and their children aka the judges, hosts, MCs and DJs of the balls.
Especially if you are white, heterosexual and/or cis-gender.
