About this Event

The University of Manchester was the country’s first ‘civic’ university. Our civic identity has made us one of the most successful universities in the world.

Uncover the stories behind our historic buildings as we take you on a tour of our unique campus. Starting in the university's neo-gothic Old Quadrangle, this tour explores the origins of the University of Manchester - a radical, progressive institution rooted in the inequality, exploitation and innovation that made Manchester the 'shock city' of the industrial revolution.

Join us for a story of pioneering figures and world-changing discoveries; some written in the names of our buildings, others hidden just below the surface. Our tour concludes on the 'Street of Science', the street that changed the world.

We will be meeting at University Place Square.

Tours last up to an hour, and will be outdoors throughout.
