About this Event
The Taste of Rebellion
“We were known as the hunters who knew not the taste of our own game. But today, we change that narrative because CHOCOLATE HAS A NAME.”
For centuries, West Africa grew the cocoa that shaped global desire, yet the people of the land were too often denied the luxury, ownership, and full experience of what came from their own soil. Nations like Ghana cultivated one of the world’s most treasured resources, while colonial systems ensured that others profited most from its transformation, story, and value.
This May, The Taste of Rebellion challenges that history.
As the flagship May activation of the Chocolate Has a Name Festival, this intentional gathering reclaims cocoa’s narrative through innovation, culture, and collective memory. In collaboration with Leeds-based Say It With Your Chest, the evening invites guests into a rich experience of poetry, storytelling, shared table, Drink of Repair, and chocolate. Each element designed to confront the past while celebrating a future authored by those who have always been closest to its roots.
Beyond tasting chocolate. It is about tasting ownership. Tasting reclamation. Tasting the fullness of a story once interrupted.
For the first time, the hunter tastes his own game and through that act, a new story begins.
