About this Event
The human experience comprises two types of stories: those we share, and those we keep to ourselves. Storytelling is a fundamental part of being human, and the stories that make up our lives not only empower us to determine what kind of person we want to be but also help us construct a unique internal narrative to make sense of the world. For many years, the stories and compositions of women and LGBTQ+ musicians were concealed from the public as a result of systemic and institutional discrimination, and it is only in recent years that their works have come to light. Performed by the piano-violin duo Ebb and Flow, featuring Toronto-based musicians Isabel Misquitta-Yip and Jesse Tamang, join us for a night of music by composers such as Alexina Louie, Amy Beach, Pyotr-Ilyich Tchaikovsky, and more as we spotlight the stories of those historically marginalized, and explore the importance of storytelling as a representation of the human experience. Proceeds will go towards the Dynamic Centre for Education, a Toronto-based nonprofit dedicated to providing educational opportunities in the creative arts to youth in marginalized communities.
