The Songwriters' Workshop
Songwriters, musicians, poets or anyone wanting to be involved in songwriting and collaboration are welcomed to a session of musical challenge and inspiration. You will spend the session completing musical prompts to motivate creativity. In small groups you will receive a prompt such as “write a song where none of the lyrics rhyme”. After … minutes the groups come back together to share work and we discuss. You’ll see how different groups approached the same prompt, all under the pressure of time and imperfection, something that all musicians struggle with. Then we switch groups completely. A whole new dynamic for better or for worse. A new prompt then follows such as “reharmonise this melody”. After another … minutes we switch and share work once more. The session continues and by the end you have small ideas that have challenged, engaged and inspired your songwriting, working with lots of different musicians with their own flavour and personality. Maybe you’ll write the next big hit? Maybe you’ll approach something in a way you never would have before? Maybe you’ll find your new favourite collaborator? It's a day of challenge, adventure and improvement!
