The series continues with a presentation on April 25th by April Bishop on “Creating the Declaration of Independence”. April will discuss the Second Continental Congress and the decision to declare freedom from King George III of England. She will examine the lives of the 56 men who laid their lives on the line in an act of treason to revolt from British rule.Bishop will examine the creation of the document by the “committee of five “and the debates that took place among the delegates. She will also examine what became of key players, including King George III, following the separation from Britain.
Ms. Bishop serves as the Chair of the Leawood Historic Commission, Chair of the Leawood Veterans Memorial group, and former President of the Johnson County Kansas Heritage Foundation. Over the past twenty-two years, she has educated children and adults about the history of our area as a volunteer docent at the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse since its opening as an historic site in 2004.
