Hello Friends! I want to officially invite you to my first ever 'dance showing'.
7 years after graduating from my professional contemporary dance program in Winnipeg Manitoba, I have begun working on a solo in which I am choreographing on myself. I have entitled it 'The Return'.
Within the arts, performers often have 'showings' of their work before it is fully produced, whether they are dancers, musicians or artists. It is like learning how to ride a bike with training wheels before you take the leap and ride FREE without any assistance. Feedback, critique and the fulfilment of performing a raw piece of choreography is a dancer's bread and butter. Even though I have not performed on stage since 2014, I am just dying to show you what I have been working on.
I am collaborating with a trusted colleague and mentor, artistic director and performer Casmirio Nhussi from NaFro Dance in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There are currently two sections to the work, that will be about 30-40 minutes in length when both are completed. We are estimating to produce the full work by May 2022.
You are going to witness a mixture of both sections that I have portioned together.
What to Expect?
The solo is about 2 minutes of dancing. Following, which we'll chat and have questions/feedback for about 30 minutes and then, that's it! Really, what I am looking for is the 'internal push' to show what I have been working on since April 2021 and feedback from an audience to help the progression of the solo over the winter months when I am only able to work inside.
The work is going to be performed outside in the Secret Garden behind Stay Gold (behind the big tree in the back of the lot). Please arrive 10-15 minutes before 5:00pm, if possible, as we will try to keep the timing of the event to an hour. There is free parking right in front of Stay Gold or free parking on Brock Ave. Currently, there will not be any seating, just standing room. Hopefully, the weather will hold for us. If it is raining then there will be a rescheduled date and time to be announced.
