About this Event

The Responsibility to Protect: Life Safety, Security & Compliance in 2026

Those responsible for publicly accessible buildings and spaces carry a significant responsibility. When people enter a building, campus, shopping centre, leisure facility or public venue, they place trust in those who manage it to have properly considered their safety.

The Responsibility to Protect is a half-day professional conference for duty holders and decision makers responsible for keeping people safe in publicly accessible buildings and spaces.

The conference will be hosted by Donna Traynor, one of Northern Ireland’s most respected broadcasters and event hosts.

Sponsored and convened by Diamond Systems and taking place at ICC Belfast, the event brings together senior voices from regulation, emergency services and industry to provide clear, practical insight into what is expected of organisations in 2026.

A keynote address will be delivered by Figen Murray OBE, the driving force behind Martyn’s Law. The programme also features senior representatives from national industry bodies, accreditation organisations and emergency services.

With increasing focus on competence, accountability and preparedness, and with the introduction of Martyn’s Law (Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025), organisations must be able to demonstrate that they have taken proportionate, informed and responsible steps to protect people.

This conference focuses on informed decision making, proportionate risk management and meeting life safety and security responsibilities properly.

The programme also explores innovation in life safety and compliance, including sustainable fire protection, digital safety management and connected technologies that support clearer oversight, stronger compliance and better decision making.
