About this Event
The Princess Elisabeth Island is set to become the world’s first artificial energy island. Located in the North Sea, off the coast of Belgium, it will serve as a hub for electrical infrastructure, connecting offshore wind farms to the mainland and enabling interconnections with the UK, the Netherlands, and Denmark. The island is currently under construction.
This presentation will explore the design of the caissons that form the perimeter protection of the sand-filled island. Key topics will include the engineering challenges faced, insights from 2D and 3D physical model testing, and the process of design certification
The Talk will be delivered by Gianluca Cavallini , Wim Klomp , Jan-Willem
