The case file has been leaked. For one night only, uncover Portsmouth’s drag history through performance, projection and hidden evidence.
About this Event

The case file has been leaked. Special Agent Sheldons’ cover is blown.

For one night only, Special Agent Sheldons will disclose key evidence and breakthrough discoveries from an investigation tracing the Portsmouth drag scene from the Victorian era to the present day. What is the connection between drag and the Royal Navy? Why is Pompey so obsessed with pantomime dames? And what does the face of Portsmouth Pride really think about it all?

Witness a confidential briefing from the Department of Place-Based Drag Phenomena as classified materials are revealed, witness testimonies are examined and Portsmouth’s drag history is laid bare. Expect performance, projection, archival sleuthing and a few unsanctioned revelations—before the file is sealed once more.

Join Downtown Pompey and the Centre of Excellence for Heritage Innovation for a special one-night performance of The Pompey Drag Files, in collaboration with artist Jen Scott.

The Drag Files is a queer heritage and performance project uncovering hidden, place-based drag histories along the UK’s coastline. First launched in Margate in 2023, the project has since expanded to Portsmouth, Brighton and Blackpool, supported by Arts Council England funding. Working in collaboration with local queer heritage organisations, The Drag Files brings archival research to life through public performance-lectures led by undercover drag investigator Special Agent Sheldons. Each investigation is accompanied by a zine of “confidential case notes”, with findings archived within each partner organisation to ensure these vital drag histories are preserved, celebrated and shared.

Downtown Pompey is the partner organisation for The Pompey Drag Files. Supported by Arts Council England and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.In Collaboration with the University of Portsmouth's Centre of Excellence for Heritage Innovation.
