As part of the NMACC’s Western Classical Piano Recital Series, this concert brings together two distinct yet complementary voices–French pianist Patrick Hemmerlé and rising Indian talent Sean Noel. Together, they promise a programme that journeys from architectural clarity and romantic lyricism to dazzling virtuosity.
The evening opens with Sean Noel, whose recent win at the Con Brio–The John Gomes Memorial Piano Competition, India's most prestigious national-level piano competition—. marks him as one of country’s most promising young pianists. In Liszt’s ‘Liebesträum No. 3’, he brings poetic sensitivity and measured control, offering a lyrical introduction.
Patrick Hemmerlé then commands the stage with an intellectually rich and imaginative programme. From Bach’s ‘Fantaisie and Fugue in A Minor’ to Mendelssohn’s ‘Variations Sérieuses’, the performance explores evolving ideas of form and expression. Faure’s ‘Barcarolle No. 3’ offers colouristic elegance, while Debussy’s ‘L’Isle Joyeuse’ shimmers with brilliance. The journey continues into Romantic grandeur with Wagner/Liszt’s ‘Liebestod’, Strauss/Grainger’s ‘Ramble on Love’ from ‘Der Rosenkavalier’, Tchaikovsky/Pabst’s paraphrase on ‘Eugene Onegin’, and Liszt’s virtuosic ‘Réminiscences de Don Juan’.
Renowned for his technical command and insightful programming, Hemmerlé curates a musical experience that traverses both structure and emotion. United by craft and expressive depth, Hemmerlé and Noel celebrate the enduring power of the piano, bridging international mastery with the promise of India’s next generation.
