Join DiverseWorks on March 17 & 18 for The Past Does Not Need You, But It Borrows Your Mouth, a multidisciplinary exhibition of newly commissioned work by Hong Hong.Featuring a four-channel video installation, sculpture, and live performance, the project engages movement, language, and history to explore Angel Island through nonlinear storytelling and embodied research.
This work expands Hong Hong’s ongoing research into Angel Island Immigration Station, a detention center that incarcerated Chinese immigrants from 1910 to 1940 under the Chinese Exclusion Act. Through shifting text, embodied gesture, and spatial arrangement, the artist invites viewers to move between layered narratives and unresolved configurations of meaning.
