About this Event

This class was created to celebrate transgender and gender non-conforming lives by engaging the community to help tell these stories, bring awareness and education to a marginalized group of people in today’s society. As part of this educational and creative 4-week program, students will be given the opportunity to experience and celebrate these lives. The concept of using media paper to create these wearable garments is to change the narrative of transgender and gender non-conforming people in the media and today’s society. The media; magazine paper, fashion journal, or publication is used to construct this work of art.

Students will use media such as newspapers, publications, and other materials to construct fashion garments. The garment can be constructed using glue, tape, and other various solutions to the paper together to create a wearable paper garment.

The participants’ garments will then be modeled by trans people at a fashion show at the end of the term to help promote and ensure a strong positive presence for the growing LGBTAIQ, specifically Chicago’s Transgender community. This class is facilitated and taught by FashionBar LLC.

This class is limited to 6 people so make sure to sign up early! The studio is spaced out so that social distancing is followed. You must follow all regulations by wearing a face mask at all times using hand sanitizer and keeping your space wiped down. Everyone will have a special work area so bring your supplies (see below) and engage in a life-changing experience while supporting your community.
