About this Event
In this talk, Frank will discuss the Overview Effect®, a cognitive and emotional shift that many astronauts experience when viewing the Earth from space and in space. Frank coined the phrase, developed the theory, and literally “wrote the book” on this phenomenon.
The Overview Effect is a concept, an experience, and a philosophy. It reveals the truth of our situation as the crew of an organic spaceship moving through a vast cosmos. It also shows us that the Earth is a whole system, without borders or boundaries. The astronauts often sum it up by saying, “We’re all in this together.”
Although the Overview Effect is a result of space exploration, it has significant implications for life on Earth. Frank’s discussion will highlight the meaning of the Overview for those of us who have not yet seen our planet from a distance.
