About this Event
The ORDER of the LITERARY ONION
A friendly club for literary lovers at The Onion Garden. Meeting each month to discuss a book of our choice. We’re open to all comers and foster a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
This month we are discussing The Names by Florence Knapp. Please note that this book has themes of domestic abuse and may be difficult to read for some readers. The Observer review says, 'The Names is a wildly original and emotionally profound novel, and details from it have not stopped swimming around my head in the weeks since I finished it.'
The premise is that a young Mother goes to register her child's birth but is torn between choosing a name. Should she follow her heart, her abusive husband's favourite or her daughters? The story splits into three to follow what happens when she chooses each different one.
If this sounds the perfect type of book for you despite it's difficult subject, please join us!
It is free to attend, but if you can donate we would be very grateful.
The Magic of The Onion Garden
One of the things that makes The Onion Garden so special is its ability to bring people together. It’s a place where art and nature converge, creating an environment that inspires creativity and fosters connection. The garden’s vibrant energy is contagious, and it’s impossible to visit without feeling inspired.
For artists, The Onion Garden offers a unique opportunity to showcase their work in a setting that enhances its beauty. The natural light, the lush greenery, and the sense of community all contribute to an experience that is both intimate and impactful.
Accessibility
The Onion Garden emerged from a bare piece of forgotten concrete pavement behind the towering offices along Victoria St. in Victoria, London. As such it has uneven surfaces and a small but steep set of stairs. We are, sadly, not suitable for wheelchair users, but we are working hard to change that.
