We round off May with our second screening of the month, Ken Loach's latest film, The Old Oak.In a devastated mining community The Old Oak serves as a last bastion for the locals. However the bitterness of years of neglect bubble to the surface when Syrian refugees arrive in the town and it is up to the efforts of TJ and Yara to try and bring the community together.
A fitting close to the month that begins with International Workers' Day, The Old Oak is an unfortunately timely message against hate, a plea for solidarity with workers from all nations and a confident declaration that racism has no place in the movement for working class liberation ✊
Join us at the Chesterfield Labour Club for our screening on Saturday May 30th. Doors open from 7pm with the film starting around 7:15. Entry is free. Donations are appreciated. Any money we make above the cost of the event will be donated to North Derbyshire Refugee Support Group.
