The Mountaintop by Katori Hall is a magical realist reimagining of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s final night at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, April 3, 1968, following his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech. When a bold, mysterious maid named Camae interrupts King’s solitude, their encounter becomes a revealing, often humorous conversation about fear, faith, legacy, and mortality. This blocked stage reading features Joel P. King as Dr. King and Joy Ducree Gregory as Camae, followed by a post-show talkback.
