The Medical Model, the Biopsychosocial Model and Mental Health Reform: An interactive seminar exploring the history of Psychiatry, its impact on the Mental Health field and possibilities for meaningful reform.
You are invited to an interactive seminar on the competing forces and enduring structural problems that beset mental health reform in Australia and world-wide. Johnny spent three decades working for reform within Australasian mental health services and this remains a focus of his current academic work. This seminar explores the history of psychiatry, its ongoing hegemony as the dominant mental health discipline, the dominance of the medical model within psychiatry, the challenge posed to this by the biopsychosocial model and the ramifications for service-users and multidisciplinary workers alike.
This particular seminar will be split into two parts with a Q&A in the middle as well as at the end with a total duration of one and a half hours.
Please note: Professional Development certificates will only be issued to attendees with an 80% attendance; this is to uphold the integrity of the event and presenter.
