The Canterbury Society has organised a visit to the Poor Priests’ Hospital, Marlowe Theatre’s new Creative Learning Centre and Heritage Destination now called The Kit. The tour and talk will be led by Marlowe’s CEO Deborah Shaw and Executive Director, Kate Mackonochie.
The Marlowe Theatre is undertaking an ambitious capital project to create a world class creative learning centre and heritage destination in the Grade I and II listed building, the Poor Priests’ Hospital, situated a stone’s throw away from the theatre in Canterbury.
Since 2017 all of the Marlowe’s creative participation activity, working with young people and communities most in need of cultural and creative opportunities, has happened at the Poor Priests’ Hospital. It is an inspiring and atmospheric building but sadly is now at capacity, in poor repair and no longer fit for purpose.
Join us for a tour of the building, learn about its fascinating history and hear about the Marlowe’s ambitions to transform the building and dramatically increase its work with young people and the community.
