Man Behind The Wheel is more than just a clever pun. It’s a passion project fourteen years in the making. This whole journey started when I was pursuing an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice at John Jay College in New York City. It was there that I met Professor Meghan Duffy . Our student / teacher relationship started while I was taking her Improv Comedy Class in the Spring of 2012. I needed electives to fill the 120 credit requirement to graduate so I chose to earn a minor concentration in Theatre Arts. I was told by Professor Duffy during a conversation we had on the final day of the semester that “my journey was very unique.” Despite having Cerebral Palsy and being in a wheelchair I didn’t let anything stop me from accomplishing my goals.”.
Over the past fourteen years Professor Duffy has evolved from my favorite professor to a mentor and catalyst for the journey of creating Man Behind The Wheel. I did a test run in 2015 of the early incarnation of the project in front of Professor Duffy and very close friends to a positive reception. Over the years the project has seen a lot of ups and downs but the current state of the project is thanks to two of my best friends (sisters blood couldn’t bring us closer) Krystal and Christina Santiago. Man Behind The Wheel is a journey of triumph, tragedy, and overcoming the odds as told by the man in the driver’s seat Isaiah Roman.
