Staged reading followed by an aftertalk with the artists.
We invite you to join us for a staged reading of the timeless play "The Lonely Soldier Monologues" by Helen Benedict, hosted at Literaturhaus in Copenhagen.
Based on the book "The Lonely Soldier: The Private War of Women Serving in Iraq" also written by Benedict, the play gives voice to seven women who served in the U.S. Army in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2002 and 2005. Exploring the mental and emotional impact of their experiences, it addresses issues of war and gender within the military. Though written from an American perspective it is a universal piece.
The play is constructed from monologues gathered through interviews and correspondence with seven real female soldiers for Benedict's book.
Following the performance, there will be a brief open discussion with the actors, exploring the themes of the play and examining why and how theater can serve as a tool for such conversations.
Performance will be on January 13th 2025 from 19.00-21.00
