A book club, but for plays! We will meet every month to discuss a play from the Library for the Performing Arts circulating collection.
About this Event

Play Club is like a book club, but for plays! Whether you are familiar with the art of reading plays, or looking to expand your appreciation for dramatic literature, this book club is an opportunity to read plays you have been meaning to explore or have never considered reading before. Learn about new works, discover new playwrights, and make friends!

This program is intended for adult patrons.

August’s Play Club is our first in-person program in this series. This program will be a more relaxed event with ice breakers, games, and more ways to explore the text. Meet other readers and get excited to discuss Fleabag in person!

Monday, August 19 at 6:30pm -

In-person at the Library for the Performing Arts Outdoor Reading Room Terrace.

In this one-woman show, a dry-witted woman, known only as Fleabag, has no filter as she navigates life and love in London while trying to cope with tragedy. She is angry, vulgar, and grief-riddled as she tries to heal while rejecting anyone who tries to help her, but Fleabag continues to keep up her bravado through it all.

Content Warning: This play contains very mature themes and explicit language.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is an actor, playwright and screenwriter. Fleabag, her first play, premiered at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and was performed by Waller-Bridge herself, before transferring to Soho Theatre, London. Winner of a Fringe First Award, the Most Promising New Playwright and Best Female Performance at the Off West End Theatre Awards, The Stage Award for Best Solo Performer and the Critics' Circle Award for Most Promising Playwright. A television version of Fleabag was broadcast on BBC3/Amazon in 2016, again starring the author. It won several awards, including a BAFTA for best actress in a comedy.

We have a few copies of the play available at the Library for the Performing Arts, but if you are looking for additional copies, the Drama Book Shop has graciously set aside copies of the play at a discounted price of 10% off for Play Club attendees. (While supplies last.) Please visit the Drama Book Shop to purchase your copy.
