About this Event

As part of Culture Date with Dublin 8, this special collaboration between The Liberties Weavers and Teeling Distillery brings together the rich industrial, social, and craft heritage of one of Dublin’s most historic neighbourhoods.
Beginning at Teeling Distillery on Newmarket, audiences will join renowned historian Liz Gillis for a guided walking tour through The Liberties. Along the way, you’ll uncover stories of the area’s past, once a thriving hub of weaving, brewing, and distilling, where generations of industry shaped the identity and culture of Dublin 8.
The tour returns to Teeling Distillery, where one of The Liberties Weavers will share the story of weaving in the area today and how traditional skills are being preserved and reimagined through community practice. This offers a rare chance to connect the past to the present, hearing directly from those keeping the craft alive.
The experience concludes with a relaxed whiskey tasting, celebrating the heritage of distilling in The Liberties and offering a sensory link to the neighbourhood’s enduring traditions.
This event is part of a wider programme celebrating the culture, creativity, and community of Dublin 8, making it a perfect moment to explore how heritage continues to inspire and shape the area today.
Please note: This event is strictly over 18s.
