Personal Statement
The Last Born was inspired by my personal experience and position in the family as the last born. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the complexities of sibling rivalry, the deep-seated emotions that can arise within family dynamics, and ultimately, the beauty of reconciliation. This story is deeply personal to me, serving as a reflection on the universal themes of identity, acceptance, and growth. Through this film, I aim to explore the intricacies of family relationships and how personal choices affect those bonds.
As an upcoming director, I am passionate about highlighting the beauty of Canada and its diverse landscapes. I believe that film is a powerful medium to celebrate cultural diversity, which is why I am committed to involving minorities in lead roles and ensuring that the cast, crew, and extras reflect the rich diversity of Canada.
Cinematic Approach
My unique approach to The Last Born focuses on visual storytelling that enhances the emotional core of the narrative. I plan to use natural lighting to evoke authenticity and intimacy, particularly in family-centered scenes. Wide landscape shots will contrast with close, personal moments, symbolizing the tension between personal freedom and familial obligations. Color palettes will shift to reflect the emotional journey—from cool tones during periods of conflict to warmer hues as reconciliation unfolds.
The camera movement will mirror the evolving relationships: static and distant during times of tension, gradually becoming fluid and closer as the siblings reconnect. I aim to create a visually dynamic experience that immerses the audience in both the physical environment and the emotional landscape of the characters.
